You may wish to consider training in Motivational Interviewing, a client-centered method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.

iStadia is pleased to announce a 2 day course on Motivational Interviewing led by Charlotte Hilton from Nottingham Trent University, to be held at the University of East London on 16th-17th September.


Course Overview
The workshop will have a sport and exercise flavour but will cover the following core MI topics (and will be beneficial to practitioners in other contexts):
- Introduction, Context and Overview
- Skills, Theory and Practical Application
- Concepts of Readiness for Change
- Ambivalence
- Dealing with Resistance


About the Trainer: Charlotte Hilton
A recognised authority on Motivational Interviewing, with 5 years of experience as an MI practitioner, Charlotte is a lecturer at Nottingham Trent University and has been a visiting lecturer at Nottingham and Loughborough University. She recently presented her current research at the American Psychological Association conference in San Francisco (August, 2007) and will be presenting again (August, 2008).

In addition to the information mentioned in the introduction above, Charlotte also co-ordinates the evaluation of the physical activity care pathway - a national collaborative project between the Department of Health and the British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity and Health (Loughborough University).

Her current research and consultancy interests include quality of life assessment, physical activity intervention evaluation and behaviour change counselling. Charlotte actively uses Motivational Interviewing with clients and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
